Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, in the Chad Brown housing authorities. He was the youngest of six children raised by a single mother, Betty Crowell, who was a pillar in the community.
Despite battling a rare blood disorder from a young age, Betty was unwavering in her dedication to her family and her neighbors, making significant sacrifices to provide for her children and support her community in the face of challenging circumstances.
Growing up in a tough environment, Momoh began struggling with the influence of the streets by the time he was 12 or 13. By 18, he had started a cycle of incarceration, facing repeated sentences related to drugs and guns. Despite his efforts to find a better path, he frequently found himself returning to street life until he discovered Orthodox Islam.
His faith became a guiding force, helping him reshape his life and giving him a new sense of purpose. After being released from federal prison in 2016, Momoh leaned heavily on the support of family and friends who encouraged his transformation.
Since then, Momoh has dedicated himself to positive change within his community. He began volunteering across Rhode Island through his work with CBAA/North End Outreach, a nonprofit focused on community support. Driven by his passion for helping others overcome hardship, he also founded his own nonprofit, Souls with Voices, to give those struggling a platform and resources to rebuild their lives. In 2021, Momoh worked as the top recruiter for a staffing agency, where he made a meaningful impact by developing innovative strategies to support job seekers and address the unique challenges faced by people recently released from prison.
He saw firsthand the barriers many face, from lack of employment opportunities to transportation issues, which led him to establish Crowell Staffing and Transportation in 2022. This venture is Momoh’s way of giving back to his community, helping people find stability and employment when they need it most.
Over the last five years, Momoh has become a motivational speaker, sharing his story and insights at universities, high schools, middle schools, juvenile detention centers, and even the Federal Bureau courthouse.
His talks resonate deeply, inspiring others to pursue positive change regardless of their past. Today, Momoh continues his mission as a Community Health Worker at Morabeza Health Center, where he remains committed to supporting hardworking Americans in their journey back to stability and self-sufficiency.
